1/4 in Pegboard Locking-Peg Tool Wall

A pegboard storage set built for true 1/4 in holes: bins, a shelf and a driver/plier bar hang on separate printed hook pegs and are held in place by split, ridged lock pins so nothing wiggles out.

This is a starter storage set for standard 1/4 in (6.35 mm) hole, 1 in (25.4 mm) pitch pegboard, from 1/8 in hardboard up to 1/4 in board. Most printed pegboard parts are drawn for 3/16 in holes and fall out of real 1/4 in boards. This kit uses an octagonal peg section sized to fill a 6.35 mm hole. Accessories hang on separate hook pegs, and split-prong lock pins with friction ridges push through each accessory into a lower hole so nothing can lift off. The set is three small bins, one wide bin with slide-in dividers, a lipped shelf and a screwdriver/plier bar. It suits a garage or workshop tool wall.

Each accessory has the same 5 mm back plate with octagonal sockets on the 25.4 mm grid: hook sockets in the top row and lock-pin sockets one hole below. The hook pegs and lock pins print flat on a breakaway sprue, so their load runs along the layers and not across them. Accessory widths are whole grid multiples minus 0.8 mm, so side-by-side pieces sit 0.8 mm apart.

Assembly order:

  1. Snap the hook pegs and lock pins off the sprues and trim the gate nubs flush.
  2. Tilt a hook peg's rear leg through a pegboard hole, then drop it so the leg hangs upright behind the board. Place one peg in each hole the accessory's top sockets line up with.
  3. Slide the accessory's back plate onto the protruding tenons until it sits flat on the board.
  4. From the front (inside the bin, or above the shelf deck or tool bar), push a lock pin through each lower socket into the pegboard until the head seats. The split prongs squeeze in and the ridges grip the hole.
  5. Drop dividers into the wide bin's grooves where you want them.

Tuning notes: the board needs at least 8 mm of free space behind it, because the hook leg reaches 12.2 mm behind the front face. Standard furring-strip standoffs give that. If a lock pin is too tight in hard metal-edged holes, sand the ridges lightly. If it is loose in worn hardboard, use both lock sockets on that accessory. The shelf is for light loads such as spray cans and boxes of screws, not heavy tools.
